COVENTRY City could come back in January for Richard Wood after having offers turned down for the Owls skipper - who had handed in a transfer request.
The Midlands club say that Wednesday are "loath" to sell any players as any money from sales has to go straight to the bank.
On Friday, Owls boss Brian Laws insisted that Wood was not for sale.
Coventry chairman Ray Ranson, admitting defeat in their bid today, confirmed his club's interest in the player adding that they would "hopefully" go back in the January transfer window.
"We put a number of offers and proposals including player-exchange deals so it was disappointing that we could not push anything through. We will review the situation in a few months," said Ranson.
"Sheffield Wednesday's position is that any money from sales has to go straight to the bank so they are loath to sell anyone at any price."
Wat an impact by super Owls sub Steve - MATCH REPORT AND SLIDESHOWLaws revealed that skipper Wood, the longest-serving player in the Owls squad, had handed in a transfer request.
"Richard Wood did hand in a transfer request and I am not prepared to lie about it because it is a fact," he admitted. "I have spoken to him at length and I have told him there is no way that the request will be granted.
"The club have made that 100 per cent clear and he accepts that. I want to build a team around Woody.
"He is very much in my plans as much as everybody else in the squad. We could sell any number of players, but we're not selling our best young players at this time."
Meanwhile, Laws heaped praise on Steve Watson as the former Premiership midfielder snatched his battling side a point at Swansea.
"He took his goal well. Steve's a good quality player," praised Laws. "He's played at the very top, so he knows what to do with the ball.
"He's just been carrying a few knocks of late, so we've been nursing him through games."
Laws admitted his team were lucky to take a point but took encouragement from a gutsy second-half showing.
