BRIAN Laws today hailed his Wednesday team's fighting spirit and early-season progress.
The Hillsborough chief is reasonably satisfied with a haul of five points from the first four games while also believing that the team should have had more.

It is a certainly an improvement on a year ago when the Owls lost their first six Championship games.

Laws is in confident and relaxed mood as he takes stock during the international break and begins to gear up for the next game, against Watford at Hillsborough a week on Saturday.

Last Saturday's draw at Swansea - where the Owls fought back after going behind - has also helped to convince him that the team have the tenacity to cope even when faced with a tough challenge.

"We've got five points and I'm disappointed that we haven't got seven - we should have beaten Preston instead of drawing with them," he said.

"But, generally, we're going in the right direction and I'm pleased with the way things are going so far.

"We have also shown fighting spirit; it's always a good sign when you can pick up something when you haven't been playing so well, as happened at Swansea. Even in that game, we could have got three points instead of one.

"We have played really well for long periods, in these first few games, and with another home game to come next, we can look ahead with confidence."

Secret Owls takeover document revealed!

Owls right back Liam McMenamin is away with Northern Ireland Under 21s for a European Championship qualifier against Germany in Wuppertal on Friday.

It is McMenamin's second spell of international duty in two months: the 19-year-old recently joined Northern Ireland for a tournament in Ukraine, where they played Ukraine and Poland.

Deon Burton is away with Jamaica for World Cup qualifiers against Mexico and Honduras.

Should be a good thing if all goes to plan.
I know we have heard it all before, but the time it sound's really good.

like your optimism.

Laws is a good man and can read the game well... a manager that talks sense.. Lets hope that we are still capable of turning out performances..

Lets turn into a team that gets battered all game and takes there only chance..

Why are we waiting on Sheards and why isn't the company the Directors appointed to find us a buyer being more proactive??? According to the woman brokering the Man City deal there were 'several' interested parties. Why can't we get hold of one of the ones that failed, that way we'd get a lot more than the £40m Sheards and Co are putting up.

Oh and as for Woody putting in a transfer request to go to Coventry (sorry bit late cos I couldn't access the website till today) - then he should be ashamed of himself.
