BRIAN Laws is willing to be patient as he ponders the prospect of adding a loan striker to his squad.
The Owls boss missed out on Freddie Sears when the West Ham starlet opted to stay in London by joining West Ham.

But Laws is in no hurry, because of two factors.

He has learned that most Premier League clubs are not contemplating letting players go out on loan until later this month.

And now that Wednesday's players are back in training, he wants to take a close look at how his current strikers, Akpo Sodje, Francis Jeffers, Leon Clarke and Marcus Tudgay, are shaping up.

The Hillsborough chief explained: "We moved for Sears because West Ham were willing to do an early deal; otherwise we wouldn't have tried to bring someone in so quickly.

"But a lot of Premier League clubs we have spoken to are not letting players go out until late July; they report back later than us, so that's the sort of timescale if we do need to take that route.

"While the loan market could be useful, first I want to look at the four strikers we've got and see how they are getting on."

A fit, eager and on-form quartet of Sodje, Jeffers, Clarke and Tudgay could be potent. And one of the two trialists due at Hillsborough next week could be a striker.

Wednesday are now holding one pre-Malta get-together for fans, instead of two, and it will take place next Wednesday (7-9m) in Hillsborough's Hallamshire Suite when they will be able to meet fellow travellers and get information about the pre-season trip.

There will be an extra welcome party on Malta on July 12.

The club first unveiled their new kits in April but held a launch party and fashion show for fans at Hillsborough last night, with proceeds going to charity. The home strip goes on sale tomorrow in the Owls megastore..

Because he's not a 20 a season man who is going to get us to the play offs. Sodje's a crock, Clarke's average at best and Jeffers is appalling

Why the hell don't we just get shut of Jeffers?

He's a disinterested crock, who's no good to the club, so why don't Wednesday just buy out whatever remains of his contact and get him out of the door?

That would then make room for some up and coming hungry youngsters from the academy, or some loanees that really want to impress, in order to earn a contract.

Jeffers must have already cost the club millions? And what have we got back in return?

A truly shocking buy!

with a full preseason behind him and competition for places im sure we will see him improve. Good to see we have a little depth in our squad for once. A little bit of friendly rivalry between the players can hopefully push us forward.. Think the play-offs is a little bit optimistic but as long as we imporove then im happy.Lets not run before we can walk.. Up the owls

Tugay is a good player but he's not prolific is all I am saying.

With regard to giving the others a chance WiseOwl, Ok Sodje if he can stay fit then he may be very effective but I think it's a big if. He's 28 and has played very little football for someone that age which leads me to conclude that these injury problems aren't that much of a new thing or that he had a bit of a purple patch for us but in reality he ain't all that.

With regard Clarke and Jeffers they have both had two seasons already how much more of a chance do they need. Clarke's OK as back up but Jeffers was fit for most of last season and never looked like scoring most games. My nan, may she rest in peace, moves quicker that he does! I really can't understand why some fans are prepared to give him chance after chance based on some misty eyed recollection of scoring feats performed when he was 17!

They are all capable of chipping in with a few goals, however if we could add a quality loan striker to them who scores goals for us then that may be enough to make the play offs a reality instead of a hope

There is more to strikers role than scoring goals you know?
Ok, Jeffers didn't get us many goals last season, but the way he links up play and brings others into the game deserves some credit.

Not saying he is great, but he isn't as bad as people are making out
