LEE Bullen is tipping Wednesday to qualify for the play-offs next season if they carry out only a little strengthening of their squad.
The club's outgoing captain believes that it would not cost a fortune to turn the team from relegation fighters into promotion chasers and he is appealing to the board to do everything possible to provide the funds.
He explained: "With the right investment and with three or four players in the right positions, I'm tipping Sheffield Wednesday to get to the play-offs next year. I think the foundations are there.
"I'm leaving the club but I'm calling on the powers that be. It's not going to take millions. If we add the right players, and with the youth that we have in there, we're not going to be far away.
"Against the promoted sides, we've drawn at West Brom and beaten Stoke; there's no fear in that changing room.
"We've gone goals down in games but the resolve that we have shown has been magnificent."
Bullen, aware a takeover could transform the club's fortunes, believes the Owls must keeping their young stars.
"Last year there was talk about bringing in quality players, but we lost crucial players," he said. "The club have to hold on to Frankie Simek, Mark Beevers, Richard Wood and Tommy Spurr."
