BRIAN Laws is tipping a brighter Championship future for the Owls if they seal their safety tomorrow.
He believes that with injured players returning, the squad will be good enough to make its mark in the division next season.

And he feels there is so little difference in standards between the top and bottom that it provides hope for 2008-09.

"Someone is going to go up with 78 points; someone could go down with 52; it's just that bit of consistency that has worked for the top teams," said the Wednesday boss, who feels that injuries have had a huge influence on his team's season.

"Our squad, if everybody is fit, can certainly make a mark," he added.
"The defence we have is good. We'll have Hinds and Simek coming back; Grant has been outstanding; Beevers has shone through; Wood has got back to his best; Spurr has been a sensation.

What do you think? Post your comments below.

"It's been centre midfield where we have lacked a bit; that's why we have had so many loan players; that's the area we need to strengthen.
"Looking at the strikers we have, it's mouth-watering, when everybody is fit."

Laws and his players are confident of completing the survival task when they face Norwich tomorrow (2pm) in front of a crowd expected to top 35,000 - Hillsborough's largest since the Sheffield derby of April, 2001, drew 38,433.

The Owls boss is also aware that the atmosphere - with at least 4,200 visiting fans contributing - could lift Norwich as well as Wednesday.
"But I'd like to think it's going to inspire us rather than them," he says. "If it does inspire them, it might still not be enough to beat us."

Lee Bullen has been denied a farewell appearance, and Steve Watson is favourite to fill the right-back spot - though Jermaine Johnson provides another option.

Sean McAllister has been unexpectedly declared fit and available but it is unlikely that he will go straight back into the team.

Yes Unitedite, I can see your bitterness from here. All congratulations to Brian Laws-- he had nothing to work with all season, a club in turmoil, and an injury list as long as your arm but he still managed to get the better of your mob. You clap on about being the "biggest club in Yorkshire--at best an illusion. How big are you now after failing again this weekend.

Unfortunately one of your barbs may bear fruit. It is well to note that with a company take-over the new broom always sweeps clean. Which will probably mean that Brian will go -- along with a great many others I fancy.

Here's a tip for all you S2ers when writing about Wednesday. be sure your spelling and content make sense before publishing as ignorance can take the edge off your remarks.

Go Owls---Get a life United
