A packed dancefloor and a DJ busting out the beats - nothing unusual about that at city music venue Plug, but this was a Saturday afternoon and there were children everywhere.

Organisers Big Fish Little Fish have been packing out clubs around the country with their family dance parties and this was their first trip to Sheffield.

The event had a space theme with a silver ship hovering over the dancefloor and there were plenty of mini astronauts and Star Wars fans, including one adorable tiny Princess Leia.

As well as joining the action on the dancefloor, youngsters could enjoy colouring in a big wall mural, making headdresses on the craft table or chasing after giant globes.

Glitter cannons went off, balloons bounced around with the young dancers and bubbles floated out in the air. Towards the end, parents and kids danced under a giant parachute.

DJ Chris Welch, who co-presents the Sunday show Sounds Like This on radio station Sheffield Live, kept the vibe going with club music that would appeal to kids and adults alike.

The sounds were loud enough to be enjoyable without hurting little ears.

Chris was joined from time to time on stage by a hula hoop performer.

It was like one giant party with a friendly, happy atmosphere and the liveliest chill-out area I’ve ever seen.

The face painters did a roaring trade and the alien-themed cupcakes and ice lollies sold out in record time.

A great way to spend an afternoon. Bring on the next one!
