A Sheffield man has appeared in court charged with a terrorism offence.
Khalil Maher, of Wilfred Close, Darnall, allegedly planned to join friends who had left the UK for Syria.
The 21-year-old was arrested at Heathrow Airport by north-east counter-terrorism officers last Tuesday (April 18).
He appeared at Westminster Magistrates' Court this afternoon (Tuesday, April 25), before district judge John Zani, charged with preparing to commit acts of terrorism or to assist others in committing such acts.
The court heard his indicated plea was not guilty.
He was remanded in custody to appear at the Old Bailey on May 19.
