Zain Ali appeared before Sheffield Crown Court to be sentenced after pleading guilty to possession with intent to supply Class A drugs, namely heroin and crack cocaine and was jailed for six years and ten months.

The court heard how Ali, aged 28 and of Burngreave Road, Sheffield, was arrested by officers earlier this year in possession of heroin and crack cocaine, which was promptly seized.

An investigation was launched into Ali’s drug dealing activity and in July this year, he was arrested again by officers from Sheffield’s tasking team.

On that occasion, he was carrying heroin, crack cocaine and cannabis.

Chief Inspector Ian Proffitt from Sheffield said: “This is another great result for Sheffield and highlights our commitment to getting those involved in drug, gang and gun crime off our streets.

“I want to recognise the dedicated officers who work relentlessly to bring these offenders before the courts and seize significant quantities of drugs, firearms and other harmful items.

“Thanks to their tireless efforts, another dangerous individual is behind bars and I want to assure the public that we don’t rest on our laurels after a successful sentencing like this.

“Today, our work begins afresh to track down and identify those involved in violent and gang-related crime, and to progress any and all lines of enquiry to ensure that our community is a safer place.”
