Two musical groups from Sheffield are getting ready to perform together to celebrate the Tour de Yorkshire.
The Bolsterstone Male Voice choir and the Deepcar Brass Band will team up to celebrate the eagerly anticipated Tour de Yorkshire cycle race when it finishes in Sheffield later this year.
The choir plans to sing Verdi’s ‘Speed Your Journey’ as the riders reach the summit of the steep ascent to Bolsterstone village before heading off for the finish in Fox Valley shopping centre, Stocksbridge, on Sunday April 30.
The Deepcar Band will also be performing with the choir during the afternoon in the build-up to the race. The performance will entertain the thousands of people who are expected to turn out to cheer on the cyclists on the day.
The evening before the big event, on Saturday April 29, the choir and band will also be joined by a the pupil choir from Deepcar Junior School, Saint Margaret Avenue, to give an ‘On Yer Bike’ concert in St Mary’s Church, Stone Moor Road, Bolsterstone, at 7pm.
Bolsterstone Male Voice choir chairman Mick Siddall said: “We are expecting thousands of people in the area for the Tour de Yorkshire event.
“We are looking forward to a great concert and the next day will greet the crowds and riders to Bolsterstone in the way we know best - by singing.”
