Louis Tomlinson's grandfather has spoken out over the fraud allegations surrounding the Doncaster Rovers kit design contest, claiming the One Direction star is set to auction off the competition prize of a trip to Thailand.

Livid fans claimed earlier this week that the competition to design the 2016/17 Rovers away kit had been fixed, after the club announced Louis as the winner.

The competition prize also included a week-long trip to Thailand, and his grandfather, Len Poulston, has now said the 24-year-old One Direction star will not be accepting the prize.

Speaking to BBC Radio 5 over the competition and 'fix' rumours surrounding it, Len said: "I can assure you it certainly wasn't [fixed]."

"[Louis] was never having the prize himself anyway. He's going to put it back into an auction or whatever, so one of the fans will win".

He continued by saying he did not see his grandson that often but it was on an occasion when Louis had visited for dinner that they discussed designing the shirt.

Len admitted to 'probably' having some wine when the pair sat down to design the winning strip.

He said the pair had looked at continental strips which he described as 'more flash' and said laughing:

"We thought we'd jazz it up a bit and we sent it in and won it," continued Len.

The club stated on Monday that Len and Louis' design, featuring black and grey stripes accented with a red trim over the shoulders, received 33.7 of the votes when it was put to the public in February. The identity of shortlisted designers was kept secret until the winner was announced.
