Local studies is on the move

BARNSLEY’S archives and local studies section in the town’s Central Library will close on Saturday, November 17 - and re-open next summer in the Town Hall as part of the new Museum and Discovery Centre.

Visitors will be able to explore special archive collections, get close to museum objects, learn how to uncover their own family’s history, read ancient documents, explore hundreds of maps and thousands of photographs and delve into a new Barnsley Film and Sound Archive.

During the period of closure, people can still access sources via family history and ancestry websites available in all Barnsley libraries.

The Discovery Centre project is funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and part-financed by the European Regional Development Fund.
