We have a chance to choose better option

Regarding Liz Brookes’ letter of June 5, (It seems that Brexit has been forgotten), I take issue with her remarks about Tim Farron and democracy.

Mr Farron is in fact preserving democracy by opposing the hard Brexit that is being steamrollered by the Tories.

He is standing up for the significant 48% of Remain voters who are otherwise being ignored by Theresa May’s plans.

If that is not understanding democracy, I don’t know what is.

I am surprised to hear she has so much confidence in Mrs May.

The person who has done several U-turns already?

The person who repeats the same old mantras over and over again?

Is she really ‘listening’ to the people, or simply backpedalling on a policy when she realised it might cost her the elderly vote?

And playing the ‘bloody difficult woman’ with the EU is not going to win us any favours, is it?

I believe that in the grand scheme of things, Brexit is just not that important an issue anymore, not when the Tories will simply use it as an excuse for more shameful cuts to our valuable public services, including the NHS, police and schools(!), and they surely will.

And in the end, it is not they and their rich friends who will suffer the consequences of Brexit, so they do not care.

We have an opportunity to choose a better option today, and vote the Tories out before they damage the country.

By calling an election to try to strengthen her party’s position in Parliament and to get rid of those who oppose her, which is essentially what she said, it is clear that she is in fact the one who does not understand democracy.

Such an intention is nothing short of autocratic.
