She’s a footballer’s wife and a singer to boot but here’s one partner of a South Yorkshire sports star preparing to prove she’s certainly no wag.

Janine Dyer – the other half of former Barnsley and Sheffield United striker Bruce – has set up a community choir in Pitsmoor. Now that’s not something you could imagine Posh doing.

The 36-year-old, from Penistone has previously worked as a backing singer for the likes of Puff Daddy and Eternal. In 2004 her then band, Raymond & Co, won a MOBO award for best gospel group.

Now she’s hoping to inspire city folk to come along and sing at Christ Church in Pitsmoor Road every week. She’s called the group Sheffield Community Choir.

“It’s open to all” says the mum-of-four. “We’re talking about real feelgood music. Songs like Lean On Me and Happy Days. I love this area, and this is my way of giving something back.”

Pilot sessions have been running some weeks but the choir was officially launched with a small concert at the church on Saturday.

“Now we’re looking for more people,” says Janine. “The whole point is to get people having fun but eventually I’d like us to become good enough to sing at weddings and events.”

Sessions run at Christ Church, Pitsmoor, Thursdays, 7-8pm.
