FROM spooks to... science.
Yup, these two chaps might look like they’re messing about on an odd sort of surfboard but they’re actually demonstrating physics in action. And next week they’re coming to Sheffield to show it off some more.
Greg Foot and Huw James – together known as Science Junkie – are hoping to simulate a range of adrenaline sports during this most unusual kind of lecture.
They’ll use surfing to explain waves, biking to show off friction and rock climbing to talk about gravity.
And they might even let volunteers have a go on the equipment.
“Science can so often seem dry and dusty but this is our way of trying to make it relevant,” says Tacita Nye, of Science Brainwaves, the Sheffield based group which is hosting the show/talk/sporting challenge.
“We hope this will appeal to everyone from Sheffield’s community of climbers to youngsters interested in skateboarding, and their parents who like biking.”
Takes place at Sheffield University’s Auditorium on November 10 at 7.30pm. Tickets are £11, concessions £7 and children £4, available on 0114 222 8777.
