Alex Moore’s article on the “City’s Hidden Rivers” triggered some memories for me.
During the 1940s dad and I took the N0 32 Woodthorpe bus from Pond Street to travel home to the Manor Estate.
The bus went down Pond Hill, past the Queens Head crossing a bridge over the River Sheaf that flowed, in view, parallel to Sheaf Street.
I took the photograph of some extensive culvert work being carried out near to the present location of Park Square.
I assume the culvert was for the River Sheaf.
I think that the picture was probably taken during the 1980s.
