In reply to RG,Sheffield, (the Star, June 27, 2016) re omissions of names from the Women of Steel roll of honour, I had a different experience.
I was surprised to see my mother-in-law’s name in the published list and the following day it was reported that medals were awarded to those still alive and also posthumously.
I decided to call in to The Star reception to enquire.
I was told by a very polite lady that all applications had to be in by May 31, but late applications would be considered.
She gave me an application form and I immediately filled it in and within an hour a Mr Andrew Skelton contacted me to say it had been accepted and the family would receive the medal in due course.
All done in just over an hour and no need to contact Julie Dore.
