Your recent editorial on the new custody and crime centre on Shepcote Lane was supportive, but expressed some anxiety about whether the money was taking resources from front-line policing.
Perhaps I can reassure you and readers.
The money for this comes from capital grants, capital receipts, (proceeds from the sale of land and property), and other sources which can only be used for capital works such as this.
It does not come out of the police budget and will have no impact on policing – other than to make taking people into custody more effective and efficient.
