...AND from the daughter of a ice hockey legend to the offspring of a boxing hero.
Johnny Nelson was one of the finest boxers Sheffield has ever produced and now his daughter, Jordan, is proving something of a knockout.
The stunning 20-year-old, whose father was world cruiserweight champion for six years from 1999, socked it to Miss South Yorkshire judges after entering this year’s contest. And once the panel had picked up their jaws from the floor, they immediately put her through to the final ‘round’.
“Enough with the boxing puns,” says the broadcast media student, of Stannington, just as your diarist threatens to go into full Sun-tastic mode. “Although I actually want to be a boxing presenter so I suppose it’s appropriate.”
Before she realises those dreams, though, she’ll be hoping to pack a punch – last one – at the annual beauty contest.
“It’s something I’ve wanted to enter for a while,” says the former Tapton Secondary School pupil who works part time at The Walkley Cottage pub. “Making it into the final is great. I told my dad and he’s really proud.”
She’ll be joined by 16 other girls for the final at the Consort Hotel, in Thurcroft, Rotherham, on March 23.
