But it’s nice to know, while Def Leppard front man Joe Elliot might now live the high life of music royalty in Dublin, he hasn’t forgotten his Sheffield roots.

It seems the 51-year-old has kept a place in his heart for two of the city’s cultural totems – The Star and Henderson’s Relish.

The proof? The peroxide blond has just bought a painting painted using the sauce after seeing a story about the piece on the newspaper’s website.

He emailed amateur artist Ian Spooner, of Cross House Road, Grenoside, after reading about the picture – which features a bottle of the relish. Then he agreed to buy the masterpiece for £180.

“I’m chuffed to bits to think it will be hanging on the wall in his Dublin house,” says 54-year-old Ian, a photographer by profession. “I know he’s said to be proud of his city roots but I couldn’t believe it when he got in touch and said he wanted the picture. I was amazed really.”

The Star featured the painting last week, telling readers they would be able to see it at the Great Sheffield Art Show at The Octagon this weekend.

“It will still be on show but it won’t be available to buy now,” says Ian.
