Ignore and walk on?

I was surprised by your correspondent’s critical stance.

Several years ago, I too was a victim of confidence trickster who perpetrated an identical scam near Sheffield station.

I wonder what G Ellison’s response would have been if a close family member of theirs who was genuinely stranded had been ignored by passers-by.

I am heartened that there are good Samaritans who are prepared to help others even though that help can be abused. It will be a dark day when ignore-and-walk-on becomes a mantra.
