HE’S not had a proper haircut for nearly five years, and this 20-inch ponytail is the result.
Now city music scene legend Michael Young is to have the lot lopped off live on stage - with the hair then being used to make a child’s wig.
“It will only actually make about a 12th of a hairpiece but, as the saying goes, every little helps,” says the photographer more commonly known as Mickelmas.
The barnet will go during a charity gig, featuring six Sheffield acts playing at the city’s O2 Academy, in aid of children’s hair loss charity Little Princess Trust.
“I was diagnosed with cancer when I was 29,” says Mickelmas, of Ecclesall Road. “I’m fully recovered now but when my hair started falling out it knocked me for six. I didn’t want to leave the house, so I can’t imagine how that would feel for a kid – it must be 10 times worse.”
The person who makes the highest donation on the night will have the honour of cutting the ponytail or shaving Mickelmas’s head.
The Saturday gig features bands Searching 4 Evidence and Risky Heroes, as well as a special guest. Tickets are £4 from the O2 box office. Doors 6pm. To donate visit justgiving.com/mickelmas
