IT’S a (pony)tail to bring a tear to the eye of even a hardened former bouncer.

IT’S a (pony)tail to bring a tear to the eye of even a hardened former bouncer.

Michael Young is that bouncer - and this was his 20-inch ponytail.

He had the hairdo (or should that be hairdon’t?) chopped off at a special fund-raising gig.

The five years’ worth of growth will now go towards making part of a children’s wig, a cause the 39-year-old has supported since his own hair fell out while fighting cancer in his 20s.

“I’m fully recovered now,” says the clearly emotional photographer of Ecclesall Road, city centre. “But when my hair started falling out it knocked me for six. I can’t imagine how that would feel for a kid.”

The gig, at the O2 Academy, in Arundel Gate, city centre, and featuring a secret set by former Little Man Tate front man Jon Windle, also raised £1,137 for children’s hair loss charity Little Princess Trust.
