...AND here’s another much-loved city landlord calling time...
Brian Johnson, who has run The Bath Hotel in Victoria Street, city centre, for 12 years, is to pull his last pint at the boozer today.
From tomorrow he will lease it out to Bakewell-based Thornbridge Brewery which runs seven other pubs in the region, including The Greystones, in Greystones, and Dada on Trippet Lane in the city centre.
“What am I going to do now?” says the 53-year-old of Rustlings Road, Ecclesall. “Probably find a job where I can work normal hours.
“I’ve loved every minute of it and have met fantastic people every day but it’s hard work to run a pub independently in the current climate. It was time to let someone else have a go.”
But he promises he’ll still be going back for a drink or two. “I’ve been coming in here since I was 18,” says the father-of-three. “I love it. I’ll definitely be back on the other side of the bar occasionally.”
