ASIDELINES: From chancer to comedy writer

Have your say

HE’S a reformed burglar (sort of), a one-time hermit (in a way) and a former porn star (of just one movie).

Now comedy writer - and self-confessed chancer - Mark Whiteley is coming to Sheffield with a new show charting how he tried all these activities in a bid to become famous. And failed every time.

He lied to John Peel about being a burglar, lived in a tent while at drama school and even tried his hand at adult films - which should all make for an interesting on-stage giggle.

The play, When Will I Be Famous?, runs at The Lantern Theatre, in Kenwood Park Road, Nether Edge, Sheffield on April 29 and 20. Tickets £9.50 on 07931 975149.

Creative talent

WHEN you think of Barnsley, your first thought isn’t necessarily great art.

But a new exhibition is aiming to put the town’s creative types on the map.

Made Barnsley is showcasing a wide-range of film, fashion, photography and ceramics produced in the borough at the Barnsley Digital Media Centre’s d-space gallery in County Way.

Organisers say it offers a glimpse of the talent in the area.

Runs now to June 17. Details at
