AN EXHIBITION of Balby schoolchildren’s art has been launched at a Doncaster town centre gallery.

Pupils from Balby Central Primary School came to see the grand opening of an exhibition at The Point, South Parade, and got a taste of what it feels like to be an artist when they saw their work in the space.

Pupils created a number of safari-themed pieces by working alongside artist Kate Sully, from Doncaster community arts group Darts.

Peter McGuigan, headteacher at Balby Central Primary School, said: “The children were really inspired by getting to work alongside Kate. It was very much their project but she was there to guide and advise.”

Beci Jamieson, Arts Development Manager at Darts, was pleased with the exhibition.

She said: “This project has been a great example of how an artist working within a school can impact on skills gained, quality of work produced and the value of the reflection and critiquing processes.”
