TODDLING along!

Youngsters in Sheffield started early with their fundraising efforts, when children under five took part in the Barnardo's sponsored toddle raising money for kids less fortunate than themselves.

Parents and toddlers turned out for the event in Millhouses Park yesterday putting their best foot forward in the country's biggest event for the under fives.

Last year Sheffield children raised more than 500 for projects working with youngsters across the region and organisers were hoping to smash the record at this year's event.

Money raised will go towards projects helping children with disabilities and parents who need support caring for their children.

TV presenter Melinda Messenger, Barnardo's ambassador, said: "The children love taking part in the Big Toddle as they grow up.

"It's always a fun day and it's for such a great cause. They come away full of pride with their medals and certificates, and most importantly with an understanding of the children they have been raising money for."
