Youngsters swap school for the football ground as part of health initiative
MORE than 60 Sheffield children swapped school for the football ground to learn about living a healthy life.
Year 3 pupils from Sharrow School took part in the groundbreaking Blades' Fit for School scheme.
The initiative focuses on teaching children the benefits of a healthly lifestyle by looking at how school life mirrors that of a football club.
The group was given a behind-the-scenes tour of the ground and a question and answer session with Tony Currie and former United defender Ben Starosta.
John Garrett, Fit for Schools educational development officer, said: "We were delighted to welcome the youngsters from Sharrow School, one of our closest neighbours.
"All of the kids involved are growing up on the streets of Sharrow, Lowfields and Highfields and come from a diverse range of backgrounds and cultures, which always makes for an interesting and informative day for all concerned.
"Bramall Lane sits bang in the middle of their community and day-to-day lives. So we are pleased that we can give the children the opportunity to visit the stadium, giving them an exclusive tour and the chance to meet one of the players.
"Some of the youngsters even had the chance to sample their first taste of a live game of football with the FA English Schoolboys national final taking place at the ground during their visit."
The Fit for School programme has seen nearly 2,500 school children take part this season, each one leaving with their own replica first team shirt.
