FREE travel for young people in Barnsley is to end - but they will still only be charged 30p for bus journeys in the borough compared with 60p paid by youngsters elsewhere in South Yorkshire.
Barnsley Council asked the town’s Youth Council to decide on the future of the present Mi Card scheme, which is having its budget cut.
Members had three options, with the others involving bigger discounts but for limited hours.
Youth Council member Emily Rogerson, representing St Michael’s High School, said: “This option is easiest to understand and means young people won’t have to travel between certain times to get cheap fares.”
The change comes into effect at the end of August.
