WHAT’S in a name?

Clever pupils know all too well – after coming up with one for a new housing development near Littleworth Grange Primary, Lundwood, in Barnsley.

Jasmine Deegan, aged six, won a competition to find a name for the £3.8 million site of affordable family homes.

She called it Woodlands View as it has a view over the TransPennine woodland walkway.

Runner-up Adam Leadbeater, nine, suggested Lundwood View which comes from the old Norse name for woodland ‘lundr’. And Tean Bailey, six, suggested Long Wood Road.

All were given special awards and gift vouchers.

Sarah Creighton, executive head at Littleworth, said: “This has been a fantastic opportunity for our children to be involved in, it’s a really exciting project creating a lasting association with the school and the community.”

The development near Pontefract Road has been developed by Yorkshire Housing with Strategic Team Group, Barnsley Council, Berneslai Homes and the Homes and Communities Agency.

It will have 28 houses when it is completed next March.
