Youngsters in good voice thanks to singing classes - PICTURES

THESE days it seems everybody wants to be a pop star.

Just look at the queues of wannabe warblers waiting to impress the judges on TV's X Factor.

And those joining the queue seem to get younger every year. That might explain why Lisa Horton's classes are so very popular.

Lisa is the founder of Jubal Academy – a vocal coaching organisation that works with children in Sheffield.

And according to this lady's songsheet the earlier you start to sing properly, the better.

Classically-trained Lisa, aged 33, from Highfield, works regularly with children aged from just six months.

And now she has created Tuneful Tots – a new class to stretch the talents of children aged three to five.

Lisa said: "There are very few singing groups for children of this age group in Sheffield.

"Singing with children is so important for their development and, once they get to three, they need to be stretched a little more. It's a natural progression for those who have been attending singing groups since babies."

Tuneful Tots introduces small groups of children to rhythms, beats, long and short sounds, and loud and quiet notes, all through fun singing and games. She believes those who have been properly trained have a much better chance of getting on adding: "It really is important to be trained if you want to achieve that kind of ambition."

Classes are held at Bethany School in Netherthorpe. Call Lisa on 0114 250 9381 to sign up.
