ASPIRING Sheffield basketball star Marko Backovic has been given a boost to reach the top with a £1,000 cheque.
As part of retailer Comet’s charity partnership with SportsAid, the electrical specialist will back 20 young talented sportspeople around the UK with training grants.
Fourteen-year-old Marko, from Deepcar, represented England at the International Basketball Tournament in Denmark last year.
He will put the funding towards his training so he can reach a higher performance level and work towards his ultimate goal – representing Great Britain internationally.
Daniel Stothard, manager at Comet, Parkgate Centre, Rotherham, said: “We’re proud to be working with SportsAid and helping Marko fund his training.
“It’s a privilege to help homegrown talent build their future and hopefully one day compete at the highest level.”
Tim Lawler, SportsAid chief executive, said: “The impact of this money could be life changing.”
