A young female motorcyclist from Sheffield is in hospital with life-threatening injuries after a traffic collision between yesterday.
The 21-year-old sustained multiple injuries and was airlifted to Northern General Hospital.
Police say a a black Citroen C4 car left a layby on the A6195 Dearne Valley Parkway and did a U-turn to head south towards Wombwell at around 2.30pm yesterday.
At the same time two motorcycles heading north towards Doncaster were overtaking a line of traffic.
A spokesman said: “There was a collision in the carriageway involving the Citroen and a Honda motorcycle, while the other motorcycle, a BMW, is believed to have lost control while taking avoiding action.
“The Honda rider, a 21-year-old Sheffield woman, sustained multiple injuries and was airlifted to the Northern General Hospital. Her condition is described as life-threatening.”
The Citroen driver, a 45-year-old Mexborough man, and the BMW rider, a 23-year-old Sheffield woman, both sustained minor injuries.
The Dearne Valley Parkway was closed for around two hours between Cathill and Broomhill as a result of the collision.
