Children are the future - just ask Sheffield’s army of aspiring politicians.

Youngsters from across the city gathered for a day of team-building, debates and discussions at Sheffield Town Hall.

The event, organised by Sheffield Futures, was designed to teach members of the city’s Youth Cabinet the skills they need to act as a voice for young people with big decision makers in the future. Young leaders from all across Yorkshire attended.

There are 12 elected youth councillors and six elected members of UK Youth Parliament who represent the city on a national level.

Natalia Cobeanu, aged 13, youth councillor for West Sheffield, said: “It was amazing that the convention was held in our city – it meant a great deal to us all.”

Jenny Binley, youth councillor for East Sheffield, added: “It was great to take part in the debating workshops. I learned to aim the argument at the point, not at the person.”
