YOUNGSTERS and their parents learned to love books – as they flocked to the Peace Gardens for an event to promote reading.

The event took place as part of Sheffield’s Bookstart scheme, where children are provided with a selection of books free of charge.

Sessions took place on the grass and Sheffield Library Service’s Little Bus, a mobile library crammed with children’s books, was also there giving boys and girls a range of titles to choose from.

Two more events are taking place, with library staff taking the Little Library to Tinsley Green between 1pm and 2pm tomorrow, and Ecclesall Infant School between 10am and 12 noon on Friday, June 24.

A Sheffield Council spokeswoman said: “With the aid of our Little Library we can signpost families to their local library and give them an insight to what we provide.

“Books are not just an educational tool as lots of fun can be had sharing a book together.”
