It’s taken me a while. But then I am some 30 years older than her target audience. This weekend, though, I decided. Quite emphatically, I heart Adele.
I think I’ll get a sticker for the car bumper.
My lad, who was 21 at the time, introduced me to her back in February. He played me that Brit Awards clip on Youtube.
God, that voice. And that song, Someone Like You; it so succinctly sums up the feeling of lost love, you’re convinced it’s an old one, reworked. And you wish you could have played it, over and over, back in the days when you were heartbroken.
But what really made my mind up about this girl was listening to her talk. She was on the Jonathan Ross show and all I can say is, wow.
The 23 year-old from Tottenham is big, bold, blousy, confident and totally grounded. Which all adds up to a brilliant role model. Something the music industry must be thanking their lucky stars for. An uber-talented star who is nice. And normal. And isn’t going to self-combust.
What a world of difference between her and that other incredible young female talent, so sadly lost – Amy.
