We had a visit the other day from my grandson and his one-year-old daughter. On seeing her toddle into the living room, I brought out a white teddy bear and fluffy rabbit for her to play with.
She completely ignored them and toddled over to the coffee table, picked up the phone, performed the dialling routine, put the phone to her ear and tried to say hello.
While appreciating her cleverness in copying her parents, I felt sad to see a one-year-old already abandoning the traditional toys of childhood in favour of the trinkets of the computer age – or am I too old-fashioned ?
