Cricket fans and players have been using their bats to pay tribute to him.

Thousands of people have posted photographs on Twitter, using the hashtags #putoutyourbats and #putyourbatout.

Among those to take part are current England star Joe Root, from Dore, and former England captain Michael Vaughan, a former Silverdale School pupil who lives in Baslow.
