Yoga helps kids keep their cool in preparation for exams
CHILDREN at a Sheffield school are feeling cool, calm and collected - after the introduction of regular yoga sessions.
Oughtibridge Primary brought in professional yoga instructor Farah Khan just before the pupils took their annual summer tests.
The initiative was started as part of an Emotional Health and Wellbeing Week, and has proved so popular it is going to be a regular part of school life with teachers learning how to take sessions themselves.
Personal, social and health education co-ordinator Jenna Lowey said the week had also involved road safety tips, first aid training, and a visit from a dental hygienist.
"Every child in school took part in the yoga sessions, and we have invested quite a lot of money into the programme," she said.
"We also incorporate yoga in PSHE lessons. We introduced the sessions just before some of the pupils took their SATs - some of them do get quite panicky and it helped to calm them down.
"Farah was really professional and helpful, and we intend to invite her back to work with Years 5 and 6."
