Work begins on project to prevent landslides

WORK has begun on a two-month project to remove debris from a landslip which has partially-blocked a road on the outskirts of Sheffield.

Contractors for Yorkshire Water are moving in to clear New Road, next to Damflask Reservoir, Bradfield and erect a concrete barrier at the roadside to reduce the risk of any further landslides.

Under a plan agreed with local residents, the affected section of New Road will be closed during working hours but open after 5pm with temporary traffic lights in operation.

From today onwards, the road will be open but with temporary lights in place at all times until the work finishes in November.

Paul Robins, Yorkshire Water's project manager, said: "We recognise that any work of this nature is always likely to cause some level of disruption and we would like to reassure customers that we'll be working as hard as possible to complete this work with the minimum amount of disruption and fuss.

"We're confident we have a plan in place which will enable us to carry out the work safely and efficiently, whilst still maintaining access to New Road and surrounding areas for residents."
