THE first stage of work to replace a weak bridge over a Sheffield railway line takes place next weekend.
Woodseats Road will be shut where it crosses the tracks near Abbeydale Road, from midnight to 7am on Sunday, September 25, so a temporary footbridge can be built alongside.
The structure will be used to carry utility pipes buried in the main bridge and as a pedestrian footpath - and must be in place before work can be done to replace the main bridge, which is currently restricted to one-way traffic controlled by signals.
A Sheffield Council spokeswoman said: “The main work will happen over Christmas, when the existing bridge will be demolished, and a new bridge put in its place. These works are essential to ensure the safety of the railway and people who use the bridge.”
