WORK has begun on a new mortuary and bereavement centre based at Rotherham Hospital.
The new facility will provide up-to-date, safe and modern mortuary facilities and more convenient and improved facilities for bereaved relatives, friends and staff.
It is designed to be more private for visitors and there will also be enhanced mortuary facilities and a dedicated collection space for funeral directors and private ambulances.
The new bereavement centre will include private interview rooms and a dedicated entrance and parking, to help provide a supportive and calming environment for bereaved relatives and friends.
Matthew Lowry, chief of Rotherham Hospital, said: “We are committed to ensuring people and their families are treated with respect and dignity in death, whether they are in hospital or the community. The new centre will further support this commitment.”
The redevelopment, a joint venture between Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust and Rotherham Council, is expected to be completed in autumn.
