Work has started on creating improved walking and cycling routes at a cost of £560,000.
The project in the Dearne Valley involves widening and resurfacing footpaths, surfacing public rights of way, constructing tactile disability crossings and carrying out corrective road surfacing.
Routes being upgraded are Doncaster Road to High Street, Westview Crescent to Goldthorpe Road, Carr Field Lane to Manvers, Pagnell Avenue to Nicholas Lane and Barrowfield Road to Lidget Lane. Work is due to be complete by March 2013.
Coun Roy Miller, cabinet spokesman for development, environment and culture, said: “These new routes will provide sustainable access to places of employment, transport and amenities for local people.”
