THE University of Sheffield students’ union will celebrate International Women’s Day tomorrow with what is expected to be the city’s largest gathering of women for a screening of film The Help.
More than 400 students and guests will see the free evening screening of the Oscar winning drama.
The film tells the story of the American Civil Rights movement as seen through the eyes of an African American maid – at the union building in Western Bank.
The evening will also include contributions from Sheffield Central Labour MP Paul Blomfield and Sarah Charlesworth, Women’s Officer at the university union.
Sarah said the evening was a clebration of women.
She said: “I’m very pleased we can host this huge gathering and celebration of women.
“The idea came from last year’s successful screening of Made in Dagenham and when a student from our film committee suggested The Help I thought it would be great.”
Admission is free, but by ticket only, from the union box office.
