Woman trapped beneath Supertram

A WOMAN has been taken to hospital after being hit by a Supertram while crossing the tracks.

She was struck at the Meadowhall South stop shortly after 3pm yesterday and ended up trapped beneath the vehicle.

Firefighters were called to the scene to help release her, although they did not need to jack up the tram to pull her to safety.

The woman, who has not been named but is believed to be in her early 20s, was taken by ambulance to the Northern General Hospital.

Tram services between Meadowhall and the city centre were suspended while the casualty was rescued and an investigation carried out at the scene by emergency services.
