A man pulled an axe from under his jumper to threaten a woman and steal her handbag.
The 42-year-old victim was walking along Chaucer Road in East Dene, Rotherham, when she noticed a man following closely behind her.
Suddenly he grabbed her handbag and a struggle took place. When the thief demanded the bag and she refused to let go, the man pulled out an axe from under his jumper and threatened her with it.
The woman let go of the bag and the man ran off down a nearby alley which leads to Marlowe Road.
The handbag contained a number of items including cash in a purse. Some items were later found by a member of the public on Marlowe Drive but the purse, cash and bag are still missing.
