Woman shop worker ‘very upset’ by armed robbery

Have your say

A FEMALE shop worker is recovering at home after two men armed with a gun and baseball bat robbed a Sheffield store.

The woman was working at The Village News, Main Street, Grenoside, when robbers burst in brandishing weapons.

A customer in the shop at the time was pushed to one side by the raiders as they clambered behind the counter and grabbed cash and cigarettes.

Matthew Wheeler, who owns the shop, said he wants the robbers caught and prosecuted.

“I want them caught before they do this again and somebody gets seriously hurt or even worse,” he said.

“When guns are involved it does not take much for something to go wrong. Anything could have happened.

“There was one member of staff working at the time and one customer in the shop and fortunately they were not hurt, but the woman working in the shop was very upset afterwards and is taking some time off . She was really shaken up. I have viewed the incident on CCTV and it is frightening.”

Police made three arrests after the raid and released the suspects on bail pending inquiries.
