A woman who crashed her car was seriously injured when she got out of her vehicle and was struck by another car.

The 45-year-old was driving along West Bawtry Road, Rotherham, when her white Toyota Avigo left the road and crashed into railings at 5.25pm on Friday.

She got out of her vehicle and was then struck by a blue Ford Focus travelling past the crash scene.

The incident led to the closure of the road while investigations were carried out.

A South Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said: “The woman suffered serious injuries and was taken to a hospital in Sheffield.

“The 42-year-old male driver of the Focus was unhurt.”

Witnesses should call South Yorkshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 772 of January 10 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
