A WOMAN has suffered potentially ‘life changing’ injuries after being dragged by her shopping bags under a lorry in Doncaster town centre.

The 41-year-old was taken by ambulance to Doncaster Royal Infirmary after her arms were run over by a lights goods vehicle yesterday morning.

Officers investigating the incident say the driver did not stop. They are not sure if he realised he had struck a person, or thought he had just gone over a bump.

The westbound carriageway of Church Way, where the incident happened, was closed for more than three-and-a-half hours while officers carried out their investigations in front of Doncaster Minster.

A police spokesman said: “A 41-year-old woman was walking along Church Way when an LGV is believed to have driven past and the woman’s shopping bags became caught in one of the wheels.

“This has then pulled the woman under the back of the vehicle and the LGV has driven off. She has been taken to hospital where her injuries are described as possibly life changing.”

The lorry was a white Volvo tractor with a blue trailer.
