A woman who hurled racial abuse at two people in Rotherham has been jailed.
Kelly Marie Walton was sentenced to four months in prison at Sheffield Crown Court on Monday for using racially aggravated words causing harassment, alarm and distress.
On September 11, the court heard how Walton shouted racially abusive language at a woman working in a deli in Wellgate at about 10.30am.
Later that day at about 2pm, Walton was seen shouting racial abuse at a man and woman in a car in Wellgate.
PCSOs were called to the incident and Walton was arrested shortly afterwards.
PC Christopher Nicholson, Hate Crime Coordinator for Operation Solar, a Rotherham initiative set up as a dedicated way to report hate crime, said: “Any kind of hate crime will not be tolerated and I hope that this sentence sends out a clear message that anyone found to be committing any kind of hate crime will be dealt with.
“We want to give people the confidence to come forward and report any incidents to us. We will listen and we will act on it."
