A woman suffered minor injuries after being shot whilst standing behind her front door.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the shooting in the Wombwell area of Barnsley just after midnight in the early hours of this morning.

Two men are reported to have approached a house on Burrows Grove, and fired a weapon through the closed door of the property.

A woman standing behind the closed door suffered a minor injury to her arm, but was taken to hospital to be checked out.

The two men are then believed to have run away from the scene down Burrows Grove, South Yorkshire Police said.

A South Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “Specialist police resources were sent to the area to search for the suspects, but no arrests have yet been made.

“Officers remain in the area providing reassurance and carrying out an investigation. At this time, it is thought to be a targeted incident.
